Blogologues: Task 4 pt 2

Our groups theme for this Blogologues performance is ‘Annoying parents’. There are quite a few perspectives which interests me from this theme such as annoying habits, annoying parents of different cultures, homosexual parents etc. I have mentioned some of the initial perspectives in my previous blog entry, which includes:
The initial decisions that I have made are:
- We will have five scenes where 5 of us will have a separate scene of our own with a blog of our choice.
-The parents and the children will interchange in each scene based on the type of scene as well as the performer of that specific scene. For example: In Vanessa’s scene, the blog is about a father speaking about her child, therefore Vanessa is the father and anyone of the other ensembles can be the child.
- The transition bits can be acted out by anyone who is suitable for the role based on their interests. I prefer the transition bits to be performed by the performers the scene is transitioning from.
- Since the blogs can be 10% our work, we can incorporate some first person aspects if the blog is written in third person.
- Merging two or more blogs of the same topic will be one be done to make it better.

This blog appeals to my personality because it is quite relatable to me. It is based on an Asian teenager and why he hates his parents. It’s not the same as the way I was brought up but it’s funny because he is Asian and there are plenty of teenagers who go through the same thing.  This would showcase my abilities because it’s acting out the blog. This blog consists of ranting and I think I’m quite good at doing that.  I think we should do this blog because it shows a different culture and life of a teenager. This could be an interesting perspective to portray.

This is the second blog that I have researched on. It is about a teenager who hates their parents and is ranting about it. This is similar to the previous blog I have found but this is more about a western teenager. This shows another perspective our theme and how different parents are. This can showcase my abilities since this is basically ranting about their hatred, which I can be good at doing.

This is the third blog that I researched on. I found this blog on the same website I found the previous one on. This is basically about a girl who hates the fact that her parents would not accept her boyfriend. These are all rants about how annoying their parents are and what they are doing. This can showcase my character since I’m not fantastic in acting and making people laugh but I can rant and act as if I’m mad therefore I’d be good for this performance.

Blogologues: Directors Task

The theme that we chose to portray in our Blogologues performance is “ Annoying parents”. My group consists of Hamza, Ryan, Vanessa and Saniya.  In order to make this an effective performance we will be portraying 4 different perspectives. The first perspective can be a South East Asian parents and how they treat their children. The second perspective can be a western parent and how they treat their children. The third perspective can be a child talking about how they find their parents annoying; this too can be broken down into western and south East Asian children and how they feel. The overall approach of this production piece is to make it as relatable as possible to each ethnicity and culture. The production should be light hearted and funny. The story that I want to communicate through this production is basically to show how children can be living thousands of miles away from but they can have a lot of things in common

The initial decisions that I have made are:
- We will have five scenes where 5 of us will have a separate scene of our own with a blog of our choice.
-The parents and the children will  interchange in each scene based on the type of scene as well as the performer of that specific scene. For example: In vanessas scene, the blog is about a father speaking about her child, therefore Vanessa is the father and anyone of the other ensembles can be the child.

This is likely to change but these are the initial decisions that I have made and hopefully we will have a great play.

Blogologues: Task 3

I researched on the internet about funny blog posts or memes which we could act out. I tried to find more meme based posts since they can be short and we can do multiple of them to keep the audiences attention. Blogologues are always funny and they play out anything new on the internet therefore i tried to finding the newest blog on the internet.
This is the first blog that I found and I thought it was hilarious. This blog is basically about memes about the T-rex. As we know that the T-Rex has really small hands, therefore it shows some situations that the T-rex might fall into which won’t work. For example, while making the bed or holding the umbrella when it’s raining. This interests me since I find it funny and I think it would be great if it was acted out.

http://whenparentstext.com/ This is the second blog that I researched on and it is very relatable to me. This blog is basically about over protective parents who try to help their children as much as they can. Whenever the child has a flue or anything, the parent tries to help them as much as they can and sometimes it can be over board. It’s hilarious and very relatable.

http://ilovecharts.tumblr.com/ This is the third blog I researched on. It’s basically about every thing in life which are turned into charts to put perspective into things. It’s very funny and also very relatable. There are also real charts in there taken from news sites, which they turn into memes.

The blog that I choose to create a plan for is http://whenparentstext.com/. I think we can do a lot of things with this blog and it’ hilarious.
This performance basically needs 2 people. There’s a dad and there’s a mom who text each other and talk about random things. The performance would basically be one person sitting on a seat on one side of the room and the other person sitting on another seat on the other side. They would both be looking at their phones and act as if they are texting. While texting they would “read out” what they are saying. Since the texts in the blog are quite small, they can do multiple texts. I chose this piece because it’s funny and it’s relatable.

The production elements that are needed to perform this piece are cellphones and chairs as props and a short montage at the back with the author’s name of the blog.

The picture below is what the staging would look like.

Blogologues: Task 2

The sketch that the Blogologues group performed was taken from a blog post called “ What tourists should know about NYC” by Robbicellis. The sketch is about a man who wrote about what New Yorkers feel like when tourists visit. It shows how the local’s aren’t really happy about the tourists.

The staging of the performance was quite simple and there were no props involved. They added a small montage at the back of the performance to act as a scenery but it was very subtle. The actors and actresses in the play left and entered the stage with no illusion. There was a curtain on the sides of the projectors which they entered through. It was a comedy piece and there was a small musical performance by the actors at the end of the scene.

The blog was by a person in New York writing about the tourists. There were some terms, which were used during the beginning, which I did not understand. They had references towards how tourists walk along the sidewalk and how it’s annoying to the New Yorkers since they get late for work. Due to the classic New Yorker accent that was portrayed by one of the characters, I had to replay that a few times to understand what they were saying. The element that I enjoyed the most was the fact that it was a comedic performance. Even though I didn’t understand the inside jokes, I understood the scene as a whole and I thought it as quite funny.

After watching this video, I feel that the reviews that were given to the group are good but as I have mentioned before, the sketch takes place in New York, which references many inside jokes. This is hard for people who are not from New York or even U.S.A to understand. The audience members were very interactive and they laughed at each scene. My opinion is not set in stone since I haven’t watched many of their performances but as of this moment, I didn’t find it extremely enjoyable.

Blogologues: Task 1

The history of the development of Blogologues started after two girls named Allison Goldberg and Jen Jamula invented the new and hip productions called Lively Productions. The idea of Blogologues started in the spring of 2011 and performed their first performance in New York City. Blogologues are basically a sketch comedy but there is a twist. In Bologoloues all the material that is said on stage, basically the script is derived from a blog post, tweet, craigslist, memes etc. posted online.

These blogs can be anything, a single lady writing about her cats or even a tourists coming to visit a new place. Bologoloues also has sketches based on whatever is new on the Internet; it can even be a leaked chat message, which went viral. The first Blogologues performance was called Blogologues: Sex, Drugs & Interwebs. The reason they started making a production line of their own was because everyone came to New York to have a chance in Broadway or the latest productions and it was difficult to make the cut in that situation. Therefore Allison and Jen made a production line of their own. The main theatrical element that the use in their production is comedy.
Their basic philosophy is to perform the internet and make sure all the hilarious posts on the internet are heard by the people in and are alive. The theatrical tradition that they used in their performance is thematic. “Blogologues is a curated, thematic internet extravaganza” ( Blogologues.org).

The processes which are required in order to make a Blogologue are:
-       Search the web for blog posts, craigslist’s posts, tweets that are funny.
-        Find out about the creators of the material they have found on the Internet such          as their jobs and what they do. Ask their permission for using the post
-       Use the blog post or tweet and play it out word for word.
-       They make sure that it is thematic and as funny as possible.

Some of the reviews that the critics have said about blogologues are that they are light hearted and extremely funny. They bring Internet alive on stage and they are true to whatever the blog post or the material on the Internet had written originally.Their plays are about any and every topic out their, starting from religion to cats. One thing that all the critics and press releases have in common is the fact they say Blogologues brings Internet alive. Some of the audience members had said that Blogologues has played out their favorite memes and funniest posts on the internet.
